Easter Sunday, we learned about 2 elements that are needed to balance our lives, create boundaries in our lives and make us grow spiritually. BUT THERE IS A 3RD ELEMENT! Can you guess what it is? Check out the teaching below, then click on the link to a very humorous video - it's a four letter word.
Element 1 - Truth
- God gave us truth in the Old Testament, after the fall of Adam. But there was no grace
- Truth is the structural part of God
- Truth without grace = judgement
- Truth is veritical. (From God the Father to us)
Element 2 - Grace (Unmerited favor of God toward people)
- Grace is the relational aspect of God.
- Jesus Christ gave us grace in the New Testament, when He died on the cross and rose again! (Romans 5:8, Galatians 1:6)
- Grace without truth = No direction
- Grace without truth = License (Galatians 5:13)
- Grace is horizontal. (Jesus spread out His arms and died)
Vertical + Horinzontal = The Cross
Jesus offered the adulterous woman truth and grace. You know, when everyone wanted to stone her according to the law. John 8:3-11
- The truth - she was an adulterous woman
- Grace - Jesus said, let the person without sin throw the first stone.
- Truth + Grace = Freedom
Jesus granted this woman Truth and Grace, she walked away forgiven with direction - go and sin no more! How awesome that He speaks the truth to us, gives us grace so that our sins are forgiven and then direction - go and sin no more! No condemnation! No matter what you've done, where you've been, who you are, where you are from......Jesus offers truth and grace to you SO THAT YOU CAN BE FREE!
